Templates

AMS uses special templates for sending and receiving AMS messages. They are used to both display forms on a mobile and to process messages on the server. They are separate to the messages themselves. This is so that when messages are sent or received only the message content needs to be sent. They are persistently stored on the phone allowing messages to be created and viewed offline.

It is easy to create templates. Using the provided web application you can quickly put together a simple template in a few minutes. Once the template is assigned to a user account it can be used on the phone to send and receive messages. You control who can use which templates and can modify or create new ones at any time. No specialist IT expertise is required, anyone* can do it.

Highlights

1. Main Components

Templates are made up of some summary information and three main elements, cards, data entries and routes.

Cards are used to control what appears on the phones screen. You can spread form elements over multiple cards. This can help group related items together or shift less frequently used items to a secondary screen. There are two types of cards, Form and List. There is no limit to the number of cards you can have and they can be combined in many different ways.

Data entries are used to control default settings and provide extra slots to store meta data.

Routes allow you to control how you want your messages to be handled when they a received. You can set them to be automatically onset on other applications or be transformed into other formats such as PDF files and automatically emailed for example.

2. Inline Help

AMS provides relevant warnings to help you put together your templates. Also throughout the application there is extra information on the side to help you remember what various functions and items do.

3. Custom Message Detail

You can set message data to be included in the detail summary. This helps to distingush between similar messages.

For example a Timesheet message may include a client code field and and hours field. Using a summary template "Client Code: {client_code} Hours: {hours} for a message with a client code of KG123 and hours worked of 7.5 would display as "Client Code: KG123 Hours: 7.5".

4. Exporting

You can control the format of the message data when it leaves AMS. By setting the export labels for various data items you can set the format of exported messages.
